Carambolage – Eilzustellung-Exprès
Carambolage’s second album, Eilzustellung-Exprès, is a 1982 release originally on David Volksmund Produktion and produced again by R.P.S. Lanrue in Fresenhagen. This Tapete Records reissue marks a new phase for the band with the addition of Janett Lemmen, who joined on tour while Angie was pregnant.
The album captures the energy of a whirlwind girl gang in motion—opening with sharp, dynamic guitar riffs and songs pulsing with playful sexuality before shifting into more reflective territory. The tracks explore themes of romantic disillusionment, the complex emotions surrounding childbirth, and an intimate ode to Angie’s newborn daughter Lisa, who famously toured with the band. In contrast, her father Kai Sichtermann of Ton Steine Scherben wouldn’t have dared—offering a subtle critique of male privilege even within progressive scenes.
Blending post-punk, DIY pop, and feminist wit, the record balances chaos and tenderness. Carambolage’s classic lineup—Elfie on vocals, guitar, and keys; Angie on bass; and Britta on drums—is expanded by Janett’s piercing saxophone, adding urgency and texture to their sound. Eilzustellung-Exprès stands as a bold, emotionally rich document of early ’80s West German underground music.
